SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE 15TH INTERNATIONAL JEWELLERY DESIGN COMPETITION
1- SUBJECT AND THEME OF THE COMPETITION:
Subject: Jewellery design made of gold and/or precious stones.
Theme: “LEGENDS” For centuries, extraordinary stories based on regional, local and historical heroes and events have been carried to the present day through different sources. The legends that make up Türkiye’s rich cultural heritage have been passed down through generations and have left deep traces in the memory of our people. With the theme of Legends, Türkiye aims to go back to the roots of its legends and create designs inspired by legends specific to these lands, reflecting the power and impact of these unforgettable stories.
Contestants will be able to participate in the competition with their original designs that are suitable for the “LEGENDS” theme, “suitability for the theme”, “original and innovative”, “manufacturability” and “saleability”.
2- PURPOSE OF THE COMPETITION:
• To create a platform for the creation of striking, contemporary designs by encouraging creativity in gold jewellery and jewellery design,
• To encourage the design of high value-added products in Turkish jewellery,
• To contribute to the introduction of young, successful, creative, dynamic designers to the sector.
3- COMPETITION ORGANIZER:
The competition is organized by the Turkish Jewellery Exporters’ Association, which is part of the General Secretariat of the Istanbul Minerals and Metals Exporters’ Association.
4- CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE COMPETITION:
a) The competition is open to all students, professionals or amateurs who are over 18 years old and interested in jewellery design.
b) All designs will be evaluated in a single category, regardless of the competitor’s identity and title.
c) A competitor can participate in the competition with a maximum of 4 different designs. A separate application must be made for each design. However, a competitor can only be a finalist with one design.
d) Designers who participated in previous Jewellery Design Competitions and were disqualified from the competition with these designs cannot participate in the competition.
e) The designs must not have participated in any other competition before, must be original and must not have been exhibited anywhere.
f) Artificial intelligence technology must not be used in the presentation of the designs. Designs that are determined to have been produced with artificial intelligence in the applications will be excluded from evaluation by the Selection Committee.
g) The person applying to the competition must draw the design himself/herself. Drawings can be made with charcoal (sketch) or computer programs (Matrix, Rhino etc.). The Selection Committee has the right to request hand drawings for our first 10 finalists during the finalist work selection process.
h) Predominantly precious metals and other desired materials can be used in the works.
i) İMMİB employees, selection committee full members, substitute members, competition reporters and officers even if they have resigned from their duties and their first-degree relatives cannot participate in the competition.
j) A designer who has received an award in any category in design competitions organized by Exporters’ Associations under Decision No. 5973 on Export Supports issued by the Ministry of Trade within the last two years is not eligible to participate in the 15th International Jewellery Design Competition. However, honorable mentions awarded in these competitions are not subject to this restriction and do not prevent participation in the 15th International Jewellery Design Competition.
k) For finalist works, the design will be adhered to except for technical mechanical requirements during the production phase.
l) Participants in the competition are deemed to have read and accepted the specifications.
5- COMPETITION PARTICIPATION AND REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
Registration for the competition must be made by following the instructions below. Competitors who will participate in the competition with more than one design must register separately for each design.
a) Applications for the competition are made online only. The participants of the competition must first log in to the Designer Portal from the “Designer Login” on the website prepared by the Turkish Jewellery Exporters Association for the competition (designer.turkishjewellery.org) and create a profile on the portal. After registering to the portal and clicking on the “15th International Jewellery Design Competition” button that appears when logging in, the participants will upload the visuals of 3 design sheets and click on the button where they confirm that they have read and approved the participation conditions. Thus, they will have completed their online applications. The participants will be given a competitor nickname specially generated by the system for each application. These nicknames should not be forgotten and should be noted. A confirmation e-mail will be sent to the participant by our Association stating that the online application has been approved.
1st Sheet: It will be the artistic drawing (final presentation form) sheet.
2nd Sheet: It will be the sheet where the technical analysis of the product is made, technical production methods are specified and the connection or lock systems are presented in a resolved manner.
3rd Sheet: The storyboard where the inspiration and starting point of the design are explained will be included in this section.
b) Sheet contents and sheet dimensions; It should be maximum 10 MB in size and in jpeg, png or jpg format.
In the projects uploaded to the system, project file names, project-related texts should not include the name/s of the candidate/s, identity/contact information, school name, course name, nickname and QR code etc. The projects of candidates who do not comply with these issues will not be evaluated. All responsibility during the stage of uploading designs to the system belongs to the designer.
6. COMPETITION CALENDAR:
• Online Registration and Application Dates: October 7, 2024 – January 10, 2025
• Jury Meeting & Determination of Top Ten Finalists: January 15, 2025
• Delivery of Produced Finalist Works: March 20, 2025
• Final Jury Meeting: April 5, 2025
• Award Ceremony: April 18, 2025
*Detailed information about the Award Ceremony will be announced later.
The finalist works selected for production will be announced on social media and on the turkishjewellery.org and www.mucevhertasarimyarismasi.com.tr websites.
7. AWARDS AND FINALIST WORK COLLECTION:
Cash Prize:
A cash prize will be given to the designers of the works that rank in the top 5 in the competition. The finalists will be given a participation plaque and certificate. The designs will be exhibited at national and international fairs. In the event that there are not enough designs that meet the competition criteria, the competition selection committee reserves the right to decide on the number of works to be selected at the jury meeting.
1st Place Design: 150.000 TL
2nd Place Design: 100.000 TL
3rd Place Design: 50.000 TL
Finalist Award for the Top 10: 5 Grams of Gold
8. SELECTION COMMITTEE:
The following criteria were taken into consideration when selecting the Selection Committee Members selected by the Turkish Jewellery Exporters’ Association. The jury list will be announced later.
• More than half of the total number of members of the committee should be professional designers,
• Care should be taken to have prominent figures in the sector as members of the jury,
• Ensuring participation in the jury from academics from universities who are successful and well-known in their fields.
9. EVALUATION CRITERIA:
The Selection Committee will primarily consider whether the designs have the qualities of commitment to the subject, originality and visual aesthetics in their evaluation; suitability for production, marketability, ergonomic structure and aesthetic criteria will be sought.
The issues to be taken into consideration in the evaluation of the Selection Committee are as follows;
• Theme: The design proposal must be suitable for the relevant theme,
• Innovation: The design proposal must be innovative and original,
• Manufacturability: The design proposal must be suitable for production and usable, and the material selection must be suitable for the function of the design,
• Saleability: The design proposal must have export potential, and be saleable in the international market,
• General and Mechanical Aesthetics: The design proposal must be sufficient in terms of aesthetics, mechanical visual integrity, attractiveness, and appeal to emotions.
10. EVALUATION PROCESS AND ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS:
The competition jury will make a preliminary evaluation among the designs participating in the competition and will select the projects of 10 different designers as finalists. The finalists will be matched with manufacturing companies and their designs will be produced. The final grades will be made on the products produced. The finalist designs will be announced to the jewellery manufacturers by appearing in the Turkish Jewellery Exporters Association publications, social media and activities with the details of the designer.

12. COPYRIGHTS, INDUSTRIAL DESIGN REGISTRATION, RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COMPETITION OPENING INSTITUTION:
The copyrights of the award-winning projects belong to the project author designers. The amount paid to the designer as an award does not mean the transfer of copyrights to the organization opening the competition. Within the scope of the Decree Law No. 554 on the Protection of Industrial Designs, it is the responsibility of the participants to apply for Design Registration before submitting their competition projects.
The General Secretariat of Istanbul Minerals and Metals Exporters’ Association, Turkish Jewellery Exporters’ Association, obtains the right to use the finalist projects in the following ways: to exhibit, publish, archive, etc. The Competition Organizer may request that a design from among the finalist works be included in the collection, commercialized or the copyrights be transferred. At this stage, the General Secretariat of the Istanbul Minerals and Metals Exporters’ Association and the members of the Turkish Jewellery Exporters’ Association may primarily request a pre-emption/agreement. This process is carried out separately between the designer and the association member. The company that is the production sponsor of the finalist designs does not acquire the copyrights of the design, but the sponsoring company may request to acquire the copyrights of the design. It can be found on the website. With the acceptance and consent of the designer and for the price requested by the designer, the copyright of the design in question can be transferred to the sponsor company. This process is carried out separately between the designer and the sponsor company and the Turkish Jewellery Exporters’ Association is not responsible for any disputes that may occur.
13. OTHER ISSUES:
• Works that do not comply with the competition specifications will not be submitted to the jury evaluation.
• The copyright and protection of the award-winning projects belong to the project owner designers.
• The Association may request the originals of the documents submitted during the application from the participants when deemed necessary.
• Unless otherwise requested by the competitors, the Association may announce and publish the information and pictures of the participants together with their projects.
• By participating in the competition, all competitors accept that their projects will be exhibited and published by the organization that opens the competition.
• All participants who sign the competition specifications will be deemed to have accepted the terms of the specifications, the terms of the competition and the decisions of the selection committee.
• The Jewellery Exporters’ Association (MIB) reserves the right to make changes to the specifications.
• Projects that are determined to be similar or quoted will be excluded from the competition; if the award has been won, the award will be withdrawn by the General Secretariat of İMMİB.
• If the work sent to the competition is not an original work, if there is a claim to the contrary, and if third parties claim rights over the design, the responsibility will belong to the competitor.
